Calibre Environmental Ltd. was incorporated in the fall of 2003 as a sister company to Calibre Coatings Ltd., a commercial and residential painting company who has been in business since 1986. Subsequently Calibre Environmental purchased the assets of a small paint recycling company and initially recycled industrial and commercial paints in small amounts, creating white, beige and grey ecocoat, which was tested and marketed as an industrial primer. In September 2004, Calibre obtained the contract to process City of Calgary post-consumer paint and began searching for a better way to recycle latex paints. In November 2004, Calibre Environmental established a relationship with an American organization that had been recycling latex paint since 1992. Calibre Environmental was able to adopt their methods and practices, and in the spring of 2005 launched to the retail market with 14 consistent colours of premium quality, 100% recycled latex paint.

In June of 2006, Calibre Environmental was a proud recipient of an Alberta Emerald Award for environmental excellence. These awards celebrate and showcase the outstanding achievements of Albertans committed to protecting, preserving, enhancing and sustaining our environment. Since then, the company continues to grow and is an excellent local example of running a profitable business in a sustainable way!
